SELF-CARE TIPS FOR EVENT PLANNERS
An Event Planners role is not easy. We are consistently raising the bar on how to better service our clients. Providing leadership and direction to our staff. Building trusting relationships with vendors. Executing details throughout the planning process continuously until the event has been completed successfully. All of the above task can be be taxing on our minds and bodies. After we have given so much of ourselves to others to assure that their interaction is pleasant, motivating and engaging, the feeling of exhaustion hits like a mac truck.
The event hangover cure has not been created but, we have to find ways to replenish our souls, mental health, physical strength, and our sprituality. Mental Health is a serious issue and we all must find a way to releash. I have several things that I do during the planning process and following the completion of the event.
Your Person that keeps you Focus and in Check
I have three people in my life that I know will get me in line very quickly. They will give me constructive criticism when they see I’m sliding down a slippery slope with no brakes. They will inform me if I need to move differently or take a different approach. Words of encouragement leads the conversation and real talk immediately follows. I have learn to listen, take notes and apply where necessary. I know they have my best interest at heart.
Physical Strength and Endurance
Exercising and eating well is a priority everyday of my life. I know that if I eat crappy and do not follow a regular exercise routine I feel crappy, my energy is low and I’m not able to give my best to no one. I’m not perfect, I love good food and lazy days are tempting. My day starts with treating my body and mind well. Hydrate, Exercise and a Nutritious Breakfast kick start my day. All before 9:00 am. (most days)
Bath Time
Bath time is special. Bubbles, Body Scrubs, Aroma Therapy Candles, and a Movie is required 2 to 3 times a week. I make it special evening for myself. I sleep like a baby.
Treating Myself Well
It’s important to reward yourself with something for your hard work. Purchase an item for yourself within your budget. This maybe a nice dinner, lipstick, shoes, bag, etc. I enjoy investing in stock, interiors, attire and shoes. Depending on the budget at that time, it maybe a meal at Chick-Fil-La or and interior item. I love plush towels and bedding.
Scheduling a Spa Day
I schedule a spa day one or two days after the event. I schedule this appointment 90 days out from the event. A 90 minute massage and facial is something I require for myself. I request extra emphasis on the back and feet. It’s worth the extra cost.
